The multi-cultural design collective was born out of a fortuitous meeting in Stockholm, hence the name Outofstock. Wendy Chua and Gabriel Tan from Singapore, Gustavo Maggio from Argentina and Sebastián Alberdi from Spain met at Electrolux Design Lab 2005. They began to collaborate in 2006 and founded the design collective as a platform offering product, furniture, lighting and spatial experience design. In 2016, after a decade of award-winning designs for clients such as Ligne Roset (France), Saazs (France), Bolia (Denmark), Industry+ (Singapore/ Japan) and Environment (USA); the four designers decided to take a hiatus and explore new fields in their independent practices—founding Forest & Whale, Gabriel Tan studio and Sebastian Alberdi studio respectively.
The honeycomb structure softly receives a drop of lemongrass extract, allowing the essence to flow down its stem-like vessels and be absorbed. This repurposed ceramic filter is possibly one of the most sophisticated industrial material to be used in the diffusion of aroma. Its porosity holds the oil and the scent is released slowly over time.
